Perfect Nail Base and Top Coat

Nails, Nails, Nails! In the last 5 years I have given my nails a complete revamp! I used to be an avid nail biter as a child and it was only in my late teens that I finally managed to give it up and look after my nails properly. Biting your nails can be a hard habit to kick, and I was gradually able to give it up by really taking the time to pamper my nails and make them look too pretty to ruin! When your nails are damaged, whether it be from biting or acrylics or other treatments or deficiencies, the best thing you can do is take the time and effort to maintain good nail care. Of course a healthy diet and lots of water will be a massive factor in your nails condition, but there are also some nail products that can really help give your nails that extra boost!

When nourishing your nails and prepping them for nail polish, the best thing to start with is a good base coat (think of it as the equivalent of primer for foundation!) My base coat of choice is: OPI Nail Envy Original. This product is specifically for weak and damaged nails and strengthens the nail with wheat protein and calcium. I have been using this product for about 3 years now and can honestly say it has transformed my nails! You can use the OPI Nail Envy under or over nail polish and it helps to give you harder, stronger and longer nails. I prefer to use this just as a base coat, although when I feel my nails are needing a little more TLC I will add a few more coats and apply it more frequently. The formula has a lovely consistency and alone gives your nails a clean, sleek polished look. I always go for the 'Original' finish but they do have quite a wide variety of other finishes and colours to choose from to suit everyones personal preferences. OPI Nail Envy is on the more pricey side but I think it is definitely worth the money! The bottle is a decent size at 15ml and will last a long time. I definitely recommend this if your nails are a little more weak or brittle and prone to breakage. The formula leaves your nails feeling healthy and strong. Its a great first step to perfect nails!

After the base coat and your nail polish of choice, the final step is the top coat. My absolute favourite top coat is: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. The product is formulated to penetrate through the nail polish and base forming a single solid coating for a more durable finish. Seche Vite is widely acknowledged as the worlds finest top coat and I can assure you it doesn't disappoint! I've experimented with many different top coats through the years, and I have yet to find one better than this. The formula has a nice consistency and gives your nails a beautiful 'glass-like' professional finish, enhancing your nail polish colour without turning them yellow! One of the main pros of this product is that its extremely fast drying. I'm not the most patient person, and with this I don't have the problem of my nail polish accidentally smudging if I haven't waited long enough! The Seche Vite Top Coat also contributes towards strengthening your nails and makes them resistant to chipping and peeling. Again this product is a bit pricey, but it will last you a while as you don't have to use a lot of it to get great coverage. I highly recommend this if you're looking to up your nail care regime and want something thats going to give you that professional finish while protecting and strengthening your nails.

Both OPI Nail Envy and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat are great staples for anyones nail care routine! Together they give you perfect, strong, durable and glossy professional looking nails. The base and top coat are both strengthening formulas, so together they work wonders on your nails, preventing splitting and breakage while giving a high gloss finish. I use both of these products without fail to make my nails as healthy as they can be. When you're done with the top coat it's a good idea to use a cuticle oil or hand cream for the best results. I like to use a few drops of Vitamin E as a cuticle oil, as its important to keep nails moisturised and hydrated for them to be in the best possible condition! If you've tried either of these products be sure to leave a comment below to let me know how you got on with them!
